Waterloo Biofilter Systems Inc. is a Canadian-owned and operated company that develops, designs, manufactures and maintains advanced rainwater harvesting and onsite wastewater treatment systems.
We are committed to high quality treatment, low electricity usage, and system robustness.
Since the first pilot installation in 1991, our technology has proven itself to be the most reliable system available. Incorporated in 1995, our company continually strives to lead the industry in innovation and service. We are responsible for numerous advances in our field, both scientific and technological, that are used every day to help protect our natural environment and water supplies.
The patented Waterloo Biofilter was developed at the University of Waterloo, in the Waterloo Centre for Groundwater Research.
Why Harvest Rainwater?
Water is arguably our most precious natural resource and has been and continues to be an integral part of the development of human society. Many of us are misinformed about the availability of water and often take this limited resource for granted. Water usage is necessary for a vast number of societal applications from agriculture, drinking water, and sanitation to name a few. It is well known that we are wasting billions of litres every day, from food production to recreation purposes. With increasing water restrictions, higher utility costs, and stormwater requirements becoming more important than ever for Ontario residents, rainwater harvesting can provide a solution for this watershed moment.
What We Can Do For You
We are proud to lend our years of industry experience to your project engineer or we can recommend an experienced Waterloo Biofilter system designer for you to work with.
We hold annual training seminars where installers, engineers, and regulators come together to learn about our newest technologies and discuss developments in our industry.
We offer support to our customers post-installation, and also operate and maintain a number of our commercial installations.
Proved and Approved
The Waterloo Biofilter has been thoroughly tested and proven effective by a number of third-party verification programs. We pride ourselves on the high treatment levels our technology consistently demonstrates.
Our systems are designed to work even in cold climates where biological activity is decreased, so that’s where we test them – and we aren’t afraid to publish the results!
The Waterloo Advantage
Reduces Water Bills by Up to 50%
Rainwater is a free resource. Collection of rainwater for reuse will reduce your municipal water usage and with ever increasing water utilities this can provide significant savings.
Reduces your Environmental Footprint
How much land area does it take to support your lifestyle? Implementing a Rainwater Harvesting System will reduce your impact on the environment, by reducing strain on municipal infrastructure and reuse of natural resources.
Completely Packaged System
Waterloo Biofilter offers a complete packaged Rainwater System to fit your needs. This ensures a more timely installation and reliability of components.
Qualifies for LEED Points
Rainwater Harvesting is an important aspect of sustainable developments. If you have a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) application you can attain 10+ LEED points through the use of a complete Rainwater System.
Our service team maintains many of our commercial Waterloo Biofilter treatment systems in Ontario, sometimes in conjunction with trained site personnel or other local contractors. The size and complexity of the system typically dictates the frequency of service visits and sampling required by MOECC approvals. In addition to regular maintenance, we are able to undertake responsibility for all government sampling and reporting requirements. Our thorough understanding of the treatment technology allows us to optimize plant operations for best performance.
Waterloo Irrigation System
Harnessing nature’s most valuable resource
The Waterloo Irrigation system is great way to re-use rainwater for irrigation applications. This system reduces the strain on water utility bills and provides a viable option when municipal water conservation measures are implemented. The following is a summary of the essential system components supplied with the Irrigation package.
